on being mended…

have you ever heard a song that just
resonates – deeply, fully
in your gut?

Matthew West’s Mended is such a song.

How many times can one heart break?
It was never supposed to be this way.
Look in the mirror, but you find someone you never thought you’d be

ever feel this way?
broken heart
unending sadness…maybe some guilt and shame
dreams that seem shattered

Oh, but I can still recognize
The one I love in your tear stained eyes
I know you might not see him now, so lift your eyes to me

You lifted me out of that deep, dark pit
 I cried out to You for help;
You mended the shattered pieces of my life.
You lifted me from the grave with a mighty hand,
gave me another chance… – Psalm 30:1-3 (the Voice)

When you see broken beyond repair

scars and memories lost

I see healing beyond belief

I will never be the same

When you see too far gone

no one will understand

I see one step from home

When you see nothing but damaged goods
I see something good in the making

how long will this take?
when will I see the good thing?
all of this crud…I am not sure I can do it.

I’m not finished yet
When you see wounded, I see mended

You see your worst mistake
But I see the price I paid
There’s nothing you could ever do, to lose what grace has won

Taking up my cause, Lord, You’ve been my champion.
You’ve paid the price; You saved my life. – Lamentations 3:58 (the Voice)

So hold on, it’s not the end
No, this is where love’s work begins
I’m making all things new
And I will make a miracle of you

Watch closely: I am preparing something new; it’s happening now, even as I speak,
and you’re about to see it. – Isaiah 43:19 (the Voice)

but how could I be a miracle?
am I worthy of that?
do I deserve that?

is there a purpose in all of this?
and to what end?

the pain
the suffering
the limitations
needing to rely on everyone

not being strong…showing weakness

I see my child, my beloved
The new creation you’re becoming
You see the scars from when you fell
But I see the stories they will tell

this…this serves a purpose?
this rehabilitation is not in vain?
there is hope?

You see worthless, I see priceless
You see pain, but I see a purpose
You see unworthy, undeserving
But I see you through eyes of mercy

When you see nothing but damaged goods
I see something good in the making
I’m not finished yet
When you see wounded, I see mended

restored by grace…
