Savior, worthy of honor and glory
worthy of all our praise
You overcame Jesus
awesome in power forever
awesome and great is Your name
You overcame

bear in mind, call to mind, cite, dig into the past, dwell upon, elicit, fix in the mind, get, go back, have memories, hold dear, keep forever, know by heart, learn, look back, memorize, recall, recollect, refresh memory, relive, remind, retain, ring a bell, strike a note, summon up, think back, treasure

Remember when you were just a wee one?  Remember your first kiss? Your first boyfriend?  Your first date?
Remember where you were when….(fill in the blank..)
We need to remember a lot of things, don’t we?  appointments, schedules, birthdays, anniversaries…when we put things…why we came into this room or that…sometimes, our heads (thankfully they are attached!)

What do we do when we don’t remember?
shame, guilt, feelings of disappointment, missing out, rescheduling…

or maybe we can’t remember?

Every time I ‘re-live’ my accident, which I did this past Sunday when I was asked to tell ‘my story’…I get caught up on the not remembering part.  How is it at all possible that I don’t remember that day?  (or the couple of days before)  How is that even possible?
And, I will never remember…those days are gone!

Although I am thankful that I don’t have any memory of the accident itself, I will never know what happened.

Then, I am reminded that my lack of memory, not out of choice, is strangely similar to what happens to our sins against God.

“For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”- Jeremiah 31:34

You see, God takes all our crimes – our seemingly inexhaustible sins – and removes them.  As far as east is from the west, He removes them from us. – Psalm 103:12 (the Voice)

As far as the east is from the west…they are gone!  He remembers them no more!!

“God’s desire is that we strive to be more like Him.  Admitting and turning away from our weakness helps us see Him more clearly.  It frees Him to remove far away from us the debris and devastation of life, and even more importantly, to move those things far away from Him.  Having all our crimes moved as far as the east is from the west gives us room to grow and try again.  God’s unfailing love is forever, and He offers to guide us through the temptations we face until we are able to stand on our own.” – the Voice commentary on Psalm 103

This includes the ‘fallout’ (the debris and devastation) from your accident, Betsy.  I have removed it from you, so that you can see Me clearly and not get bogged down my the chaos and misery.  It has been removed!  Remember, I am doing a new thing in You! – God

Lord, help me to not remember….
I want to see You, not the crud.
Not remembering is part of Christ-likeness, and that is my goal.  Help me embrace all of being what Christ means and looks like.

live like that

Sometimes I think
What will people say of me
When I’m only just a memory
When I’m home where my soul belongs

Was I love
When no one else would show up
Was I Jesus to the least of those
Was my worship more than just a song

I want to live like that
And give it all I have
So that everything I say and do
Points to You

If love is who I am
Then this is where I’ll stand
Recklessly abandoned
Never holding back

I want to live like that I want to live like that
Am I proof
That You are who you say You are
That grace can really change a heart
Do I live like Your love is true

People pass
And even if they don’t know my name
Is there evidence that I’ve been changed
When they see me, do they see You

I want to live like that
And give it all I have
So that everything I say and do
Points to You

If love is who I am
Then this is where I’ll stand
Recklessly abandoned
Never holding back

I want to live like that I want to live like that
I want to show the world the love
You gave for me
I’m longing for the world to know the glory of the King
I want to live like that
And give it all I have
So that everything I say and do
Points to You

If love is who I am
Then this is where I’ll stand
Recklessly abandoned
Never holding back
I want to live like that I want to live like that

Silence of Unworthiness

Silence of Unworthiness.

God is weird

No, that is not a typo…God is weird.

weird – involving or suggesting the supernatural; unearthly or uncanny

synonyms – awe-inspiring, curious, mysterious, uncanny, unnatural

I, on the other hand, am certainly not weird….at all!! (insert a major guffaw here) 🙂

Oh, I digress!  Back to ‘God is weird’.  ahem…

Too often we think of ‘weird’ as odd and abnormal and bizarre.  That is not exactly what I mean when I say that God is weird.  And maybe I consider His ways weird, but as I have been thinking about this, I really do think that God is weird!

Yesterday, I had the distinct and humbling opportunity to share my life story with a group of senior high youth at a neighboring church.  Not only was it a humbling experience, but it was enjoyable and God used it to reaffirm in my spirit that He has always known what the future for me, His plan for my life, has been.
I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. – Jeremiah 29:11 (MSG)

…overweight, introverted, ‘shy’, the ‘good girl’, a loner, brainy…who would have ever thought that God would use that girl (me) to reach and teach and share?
God is weird.
…depressed, alone, fearful, scared, suicidal….who would have ever thought that God would use that experience to impact someone else’s life?
God is weird.
…car accident, coma, rehabilitation, injury, ‘damaged’ goods…who would have ever thought that that incident would become a pivotal door through which I would enter into healing and restoration of my spirit?
God is weird.

To read more of ‘my story’ check out this is my story and my tempest.

What about you?  Look back at your life…have there been times when you have wondered what God is doing?

God tells us in Isaiah,
“I don’t think the way you think.    The way you work isn’t the way I work.”  – Isaiah 55:8 (MSG)
Isn’t it a relief and a consolation to know that He doesn’t think or work the way we do?  Boy! am I thankful for that!
Have you had experiences that you can look back on and see the hand of God at work?  I’d love to hear about them.

God is certainly inexplicable and extraordinary, mysterious and miraculous, incredible and remarkable.
God is weird.
And I suppose that because we have joined with Him on this journey, that He has taken ahold of us…that makes us weird too! 😉

10,000 reasons

The sun comes up
It’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing your song again
Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes

Have you ever had an itch…even one you can’t scratch?
Have you ever just simply scratched your head in disbelief, bewilderment, or utter amazement?

Have you ever been ‘itching’ to do something or go somewhere?
The feeling just doesn’t subside or go away…

Have you ever had and ‘itch’ to or a longing or restless desire?
The ‘how’ or the ‘what’ is not always known…

Sometimes, we are just ‘itchy’.
What if the itch, the source of the itch is from God?  What do we do then?
What does a ‘God itch’ look like?
What does a ‘God itch’ feel like?

A tingle…that you brush off.
A rash…on which you put ointment (filling your mind with other things, your heart with other people)
An itch…that you scratch.

A God itch is the kind you *want* to scratch!

Are you itchy?

walking by faith

Sunny days.  Warm weather.
Ohio in March??

We have been blessed with unordinary weather patterns in the past couple of weeks.  Yesterday, I took advantage of an unusual March day, and went on a walk with a friend of mine.  The day was beautiful, the path was clear, and the conversation along the way was good.  Oh, the sweating part was the only downside? 🙂

Do you like to walk?
A few years ago I trained to walk in the Cleveland Marathon.  I committed myself to the training, to getting healthy, to finishing.  If you know me at all, you know that this was a shocking feat!
Three hours and 33 minutes and 13.2 miles later, the finish line was crossed!!

Show me the right path, O LORD;  point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me.  All day long I put my hope in you. -Psalm 25:3-4 (NLT)

Not all of us will walk or run in a marathon, or even train for one, but we all walk everyday along the path that God has set out for us.  As we journey on that road, we don’t always have the smoothest trail, or the clearest path.
And then, there are things which capture our attention and shift our focus from the journey.

We see…
We hear…
We touch…
We smell…
We taste…
We totally rely on our senses to bring us safely to the end of whatever journey we are on.
Where does faith come into play?  What does it mean to walk by faith?

When we have faith in God and walk in that faith, we don’t always see or hear or touch or smell or taste.

It’s what we trust in but don’t yet see that keeps us going. Do you suppose a few ruts in the road or rocks in the path are going to stop us?
– 2 Corinthians 5:7-8

We trust…blindly.
We obey…intentionally.
We embrace…whole heartedly.
We breathe in…with gusto.
We devour…passionately.

i shall believe

That not everything is gonna be the way you think it ought to be
It seems like everytime I try and make it right it all comes down on me
Please say honestly You won’t give up on me and I Shall Believe

Good Things

Father,There are times when we feel…well..like poo. We look at some of the things we’ve done and wonder if there is anything remotely special about us. Our failures make us wonder if we will ever be able to do anything right. Lord these are lies from the evil one. He has come to steal and kill and destroy, but You Lord, have come that we may have life and have it to the full! We ask that as we make our Good Things box or one for a loved one, that You would help us fill it with Your Word. May it be a reminder of who we are in You. We are precious, chosen, set-apart, gifted, beautiful, useful, and a conqueror. Above all, we are Your beloved children and You have called us by name!Amen.
