hungry?

You know that feeling?  That ache in the pit of your gut…the churning noises…the rumbling…the insatiable desire that you yearn to satisfy.

Yep.  I’ve been there.  Sometimes, I am still there.

Hunger.

But not for food.

Hunger for…companionship…friendship…love…acceptance…

Been there?

What do we do to satisfy, or attempt to satisy, that ache?  We try to fill ‘it’ with everything and anything…food…drink…people…stuff…drugs…activities…

We consume what we crave, what we think about.

So, is craving wrong?  No, not at all.  We are made to crave – made to crave God.

“God made us capable of craving so we’d have an unquenchable desire for more of Him, and Him alone.  Nothing changes until we make the choice to redirect our misguided cravings to the only one capable of satisfying them.” – Lysa Terkeurst, Made to Crave

Jesus says, “Come, follow me.”  But perhaps in that invitation, there is a little deeper challenge to give up the thing we crave more than Jesus, and then, follow Him.

So, what do we crave?  For what are we hungry?

And, does ‘this’ take the place of our hunger and craving for God?

ouch.  I know.

Maybe it is food.  Maybe it is relationships.  Maybe it is fame or fortune or reputation.  Whatever it is, we are called to let it go, and follow Jesus.

This is a daily abandonment of what we want and a moment by moment surrender to God and His desires for us.

Freedom.

Satisfying the ache.

Being captivated by our Creator.

Are you hungry for that?

grace.
